I aggregated the statistics created from the cyber attacks timelines published in the first quarter of 2024. In this period, I collected a total of 833 events (9.15 events/day) dominated by Cyber Crime with 75.2%, slightly down from 77.1% of Q4 2023. On the other hand, events driven by Cyber Espionage increased slightly to 11.5% from 9.3%.

Malware continued to lead the Attack Techniques chart with 19.8% but keep in mind that with 2024 I started to count ransomware (at number two with 16.1%) as separated events. The exploitation of vulnerabilities ranked at number three 13.1%.

The Target Distribution chart confirmed Multiple industries at the first place with 29.2% up from 18.9%, followed by organizations in the government sector (14%) and attacks directed to individuals.

The third quarter of 2023 saw a 6.5% increase in cyber attacks with 1,108 events. Cybercrime led the charts with 79.7% of motives, mostly using malware techniques. Exploitation of vulnerabilities ranked second, majorly affecting multiple industries and healthcare and financial sectors.
