After the cyber attacks timelines (part I and part II), it’s time to publish the statistics of October 2023 where I collected and analyzed 374 events, slightly down from the , up from the 381 events of September.

As usual, Cyber Crime led the Motivations chart with 76.7%, a percentage lower than 80% for the third month in a row, and close to 77.2% of the previous month. Operations driven by Cyber Espionage went down to 8.3% from 11.5%, while Hacktivism, fueled by the Middle  East war, doubled its percentage and ranked at number two with 9.4% from 4.7% of September. With just 4 events, Cyber Warfare doubled its modest percentage to 1.1% from 0.5%.

The Attack Techniques chart is led by Malware with 34.2%, down from 38.1%, while attacks carried out through the exploitation vulnerabilities ranked at place number two, with 15.2%, slighty down from 16.3%. The third place among the known techniques is taken by Account Takoeovers with 11%, up from 8.2%. Last but not least, Targeted Attacks are down to 6.1% from 8.7%.

The Distribution of Targets is led again by Multiple Organizations up to 19.3% from 16.8%, ahead of operations against individuals (10.7%,) with the same value than Healthcare down from 13.4% of the previous month.
