And now I can publish the statistics derived from the timelines of March (part I and part II). This month I have collected a total of 141 events (considering the leaks released by Gnosticlplayers as single attacks), which confirm the sustained level of activity that is characterizing this beginning of 2019
So the Daily Trend of Events chart presents a peak in the second week, on March 13th, and overall quite a high level of activity with the usual breaks during the weekends (except on the 17th when the third mega leak by Gnosticplayers was released).
Cyber Crime ranks again on top of the Motivations Behind Attacks chart, but its percentage drops to 79.4% from 88.5% vs 88.1%. The difference goes nearly entirely to Cyber Espionage that in practice doubles its “market share” to 14.2% from 7.3%). Cyberwarfare is back around 4%, while Hacktivism is stable around 2% (2.1% precisely).
Nothing new under the sun of the Attack Vectors chart, where Malware ranks on top with 41.1% (from 37%), ahead of Account Hijackings stable to 14.2% from 13.9%. Attacks driven by Vulnerabilities jump at number three among the know vectors with 11.3%.
For the third month in a row, single individuals rank on top of the Targets chart, despite their percentage drops again to 20.6% from 26.1%. And once again they are ahead of multiple targets (17.7% vs 13.9%). Targets belonging to the Public Administration (read Governments) get the third place with 12.8%
As always, bear in mind that the sample refers exclusively to the attacks included in my timelines, aiming to provide an high level overview of the “cyber landscape”.
