Worldwide security software revenue totaled $21.4 billion in 2014, showing a 5.3 percent increase from 2013 revenue of $20.3 billion, according to Gartner report “Market Share Analysis: Security Software, Worldwide, 2014.”
Traditional technologies keep on struggling: the report outlines a slow growth of endpoint protection platforms and a decline in consumer security software (two segment that together account for 39 percent of the market).
This is in contrast with other high growth areas, such as Data Loss Prevention (DLP, 15.8 percent growth year over year, to reach $643 million in revenue in 2014), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM, 11 percent in 2014 to reach $1.6 billion in revenue), secure Web gateway (SWG) and identity governance and administration (IGA).
For the records, the past year confirmed the booming trend, with a year over year percentage substantially in line with 2013 (Source: “Market Share Analysis: Security Software, Worldwide” – 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).
